Dr. Patricia Pinto da Silva is a social scientist with the Resource Evaluation and Assessment Social Sciences division of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Northeast Fisheries Science Center. Patricia's research began with a focus on collaborative resource management and the role that fishermen and fishing communities play in managing environmentally and socially sustainable fisheries. After writing extensively on emerging fisheries organizations, as well as on the value of the relationship between fishermen (social capital), Patricia broadened her interests to examine questions in the context of regional food systems. Some questions she is currently considering are: What do we do with the fish that we catch in our region? Where does it go? How can we build resilient fisheries and fishing communities while strengthening our regional food systems? Patricia has a PhD and an MSc in Social Policy and Planning from the London School of Economics. From 2008 to 2009, she was a Sustainability Science Fellow with the Harvard Kennedy School’s Government Sustainability Science Program. Patricia has served on SESYNC’s Scientific Review Committee.
