Dr. Tom Evans is a Professor in the School of Geography, Environment, and Development at the University of Arizona. Tom’s current work investigates the dynamics of human-environment relationships including land use, agricultural decision-making, food security, and environmental governance. His previous research focused on deforestation/reforestation, urban ecosystems, and community resilience. Much of Tom’s work involves the integration of household-level analysis with environmental data and draws on extensive fieldwork campaigns and methods from GIS, remote sensing, econometric analysis, and simulation modeling. Tom’s research group is multi-disciplinary, collaborative, and team-based, in which graduate students and postdocs work with researchers from economics, biology, environmental science, and political—science among other disciplines. He received his PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Tom served on SESYNC’s Scientific Review Committee.
