Dr. Billy Hall is a cultural geographer whose work examines issues related to food systems, racial justice, and urban inequality. From 2017—2019, Billy worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at SESYNC, where he studied how histories of racial struggle have shaped urban ecologies and the ways in which people access urban green space. With his research team, he has published articles in the Annals of the American Association of Geographers, Urban Ecosystems, and npj Urban Sustainability. Billy holds a PhD in Global & Sociocultural Studies from Florida International University. Currently, he is completing an American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Science & Technology Policy Fellowship, working as a Communications Advisor for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Bureau of Resilience and Food Security.
