Dr. Dexter Locke is a research social scientist with the Urban Forests, Environmental Quality, and Human Health Research Unit of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service. Prior to that role, Dexter was a postdoctoral fellow at SESYNC. Dexter has also worked for the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation and the USDA Forest Service, Northern Research Station, in the People and Their Environments: Social Science Supporting Natural Resource Management and Policy Unit. Describing himself as an urban ecologist, Dexter earned a doctorate from the Graduate School of Geography at Clark University and a master's degree in Environmental Science from The Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies at Yale University. He graduated summa cum laude from The Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources at The University of Vermont with a bachelor’s degree in Natural Resource Planning and minors in Economics and Forestry. Conducting applied research with urban natural resource managers is his passion. When not doing urban ecology, Dexter can usually be found rock climbing and hiking throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, listening to classic rock music, popping wheelies, and hopping off curbs on his kid-sized BMX bike throughout Baltimore City.
