Dr. Cassie Gurbisz is an Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies at St. Mary’s College of Maryland. Her research focuses on coastal ecosystem ecology. While at SESYNC, Cassie studied landscape-scale wetland dynamics. More recently, she has investigated interactions between submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV) and oyster aquaculture and the role of SAV in modulating estuarine nutrient dynamics. As a faculty member of a primarily undergraduate institution, she also spends a significant portion of her time teaching. Her courses include Introduction to Environmental Studies, Introduction to Environmental Science, Field Research Methods, Quantitative Methods, and Coastal Ecosystem Management. Cassie earned a PhD in Marine, Estuarine, and Environmental Science at University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science and a BS in Environmental Science and Studio Art at Dickinson College.
